The Integrated Archaeobotanical Research project is based at the Department of Archaeology, University of Sheffield (UK). It is an EU Marie Curie Actions project lead by Glynis Jones and Mike Charles. The aim of the project is to create an integrated approach to the study of plant remains from archaeological sites. This is carried out using case studies from northern Europe, Greece and Syria. Also, an important part is the creation of a tutorial in archaeobotany that can used as a base for on-line training of students as well as a source of information for non-specialist archaeologists. Part of the work related to phytoliths was to prepare a thorough reference collection based on the cereal collections in Sheffield.
The on-line tutorial will be available from May 2009 and a link on this will be added to access directly the Wiki-style tutorial.
Currently the group is working on the publication of the results.
