Funding and Acknowledgements

Funding

The archaeological project Herders' Monuments: Neolithic Ashmounds of Southern India is supported by generous grants from the British Academy and the McDonald Grants and Awards Fund. We also would like to thank the support of Karnatak University. Our deepest gratitude goes to Utti Gold Mines Ltd and especially in the persons of WZ (director) and XY (head of geological explorations) for having enthusiastically espoused the ashmounds cause and for granting hospitality in the company guest house.

The Herders' Monuments benefits from the support and encouragements from many people in India and the UK. We would like, in particular, to thank Dorian Fuller, Chris Scarre, Mukund Kajale, Nicole Boivin and Mark Moore. Marco Madella would like to express his gratitude to Bridget Allchin and the people at the Ancient India and Iran Trust while Ravi Korisettar would like to thank the authorities at Karnatak University for encouragement and help.

Marco Madella and Ulla Rajala are very grateful for the kind hospitality of the Korisettar family and for providing a friendly, homely enviroment in Dharwad.

The team would like to thank all the villagers from Karnataka and Madya Pradesh who have helped with information about the ashmounds and about the traditional way of life in South India.
